I currently have braces and need jaw surgery next year.
The braces aren't painful after getting used to them, and tightenings don't even bother me anymore. getting them the first time was the worst, and the first tightening.
I have ceramic braces on the top and train tracks on the bottom.
I've had them 8 months, need them about 2 years.
Both top and bottom.
I just got braces yesterday! Braces don't hurt that bad, but they make your gums sort of "itchy" and irritate because after all, there is metal in your mouth! I got the traditional braces top and bottom at once, and soon I have to remove 4 permanent molars to create enough space for my front teeth to move back. You might not have to remove any teeth (lucky butt).
I didn't take any drugs or painkillers because the pain was actually bearable for me. Currently, my teeth feel extremely tight together and stiff, but it's completely bearable. It's only when you eat or bite down does it feel awful. It's only been one day for me with braces, and my 2 bottom center teeth are surprisingly aligned already. It feels so smooth already!
Just make sure to have lots of food that don't require chewing. I was careless on that one, so when I went home and started to eat apples, I COULD NOT chew it. It took at least 20 minutes to eat that once apple slice. My mom ended up buying mac and cheese for me XD It felt so much better to eat that instead!
Three more years left for me with braces! (e.e including 4 permanent molars and wisdom teeth removal). Best of luck to you!
I currently have had braces for 4 months.I have a fixed ceramic brace just on the top. I doesn't hurt to have it put on. It aches a bit after and when you get the bands changed but it wears off after a couple of days.
I have train track braces on my top and bottom teeth for the last 21 months. They didn't hurt getting them on, but my mouth was very sore for a few days afterwards.
i had multiple ones (dont know the english names). i had the standard one that most people think of and the one you wear at night. i didnt feel any pain. most people dont. you might feel some pressure sometimes but thats it.
had it for about a year and on both sets of teeth <
