You may have heard that drinking a glass of milk can relieve heartburn. While it's true that milk can temporarily buffer stomach acid, nutrients in milk, particularly fat, will stimulate the stomach to produce more acid.
Even though milk might not be a great heartburn remedy, however, it's a rich source of bone-building calcium. Try fat-free skim milk and don't overdo it. Drink no more than 8 ounces of skim milk at a time -- as a snack in between meals. Overfilling the stomach may increase heartburn.
It may sound strange, but gum stimulates the production of saliva, which is an acid buffer. Plus, chewing gum makes you swallow more often, which pushes those nasty acids back out of your esophagus. When you pick a pack of gum, just make sure it's sugar-free so you also protect your teeth.
There was a time where my acid reflux was so bad I ended up developing an ulcer in my esophagus. No pills helped at all in controlling the pain or the acid. Eventually I began juicing cabbage. And drinking one cup(half a cabbage) of juice in the morning and at night. This cured me in less than two weeks and had problems for over 5 months.
The taste is not that bad, but the results are amazing and I highly recommend this and that you sick with the treatment until fully cured.
First, review your diet and nutritional intake to see if there's something you're reacting to. Reduce your intake to basics and start a food diary. Gradually add one new food at a time every week or so until you start having symptoms again. Start a list of foods that cause your reaction. That might be the cheapest, easiest way if your condition is food-caused. <
